Hikers and walkers have some exciting choices in Central Island. The Parkway Trail, the Railway Trail, and the Trans Canada Trail in Nanaimo are all spectacularly scenic and open to both
hikers and cyclists. You’ll find further
options at Nanaimo Lakes, Neck Point,
Westwood Lake Park, Jack Point/Biggs
Park near the Duke Point ferry terminal,
Divers Lake Park, Colliery Dam Park, and
Newcastle Island Provincial Marine Park.
Bird watching hikers and walkers will love
Pipers Lagoon Park and Buttertubs Marsh
Sanctuary. In Arrowsmith Coombs Country, gorgeous Englishman River Falls
Provincial Park has some great hiking and mountain biking trails. Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park is another favourite with trails for everyone in the family,
including some that are wheelchair accessible. The Oceanside area is developing a system of multi-use trails that will connect the seven provincial parks, the major regional parks, and the various communities. Completed sections include a route from Parksville to Qualicum Beach, the Top Bridge Trail, and most of the Lighthouse Country Trail from Bowser to Qualicum Bay. In addition, the town of Qualicum Beach maintains more than ten kilometres of woodland trails, including the new Heritage Forest Park. |
