Ocean kayaking is another Nanaimo favourite, and kayakers will enjoy paddling in Nanaimo’s harbours, along the shorelines, and in the waters surrounding offshore islands, especially Newcastle Island and Gabriola Island. Kayaking is also an excellent way to see Nanaimo’s marine residents and a multitude of birds. The Nanaimo River Estuary in Jack Point/Biggs Park is a particularly popular spot among wildlife watching kayakers.
In Oceanside, the picturesque waters of Nanoose Bay and the coastline and bays of Lighthouse Country are especially favoured among kayakers. The beaches of Parksville and Qualicum Beach provide more options for paddlers. The close proximity of Denman and Hornby Islands to Deep Bay and the Winchelsea and Ballenas Islands to Schooner Cove is attractive to kayakers of all skill levels. |
