The communities of Honeymoon Bay, Youbou, Mesachie Lake, and the town of Lake Cowichan surround Cowichan Lake, the second largest lake on Vancouver Island. Hikers will find several trails in the area, including the 20-kilometre Cowichan River Footpath and the Trans Canada Trail. Secondary roads lead to Port Renfrew and Bamfield, the trailheads for the West Coast Trail. You can also journey to the old-growth forest of Carmanah Walbran Provincial Park or to the windsurfers’ mecca of Nitinat Lake. In the town of Lake Cowichan, stop at the award-winning Kaatza Station Museum, located behind the Visitor Info Centre, where you can pick up a map for a 75-kilometre drive around the lake. Kayaking, canoeing, inner tubing, water skiing, jet skiing, and houseboating are available at
the marina and from local companies.
