Cowichan LadySmith

Named one of the ten prettiest towns in Canada by Harrowsmith Country Life Magazine, delightful Ladysmith is a picture-perfect town built on a hillside overlooking Georgia Strait. Ladysmith is also renowned for its Christmas Light Up Celebration and received a Five Bloom rating with a special mention for heritage conservation in the 2003 National Communities in Bloom competition. The Heritage Walk/Heritage Artifacts Route and the Black Nugget Museum provide wonderful insight into Ladysmith’s colourful coal mining and logging past. Recreation highlights include Transfer Beach Park, a haven for swimmers and kayakers and the venue for outdoor summer concerts, and the Holland Creek Trails. For a nice side trip from Ladysmith, turn off Highway 1 onto Cedar Road toward Yellow Point. This lovely route leads through farmland to lakes, parks, and coastline, with artisan studios, gift shops, and gardens along the way.
