Cowichan fishing

Saltwater fishing opportunities are plentiful in Cowichan and charters and guides can be arranged for departure from marinas in Cowichan Bay, Maple Bay, Crofton, Chemainus, and Ladysmith. Freshwater fishing is also a big sport. The Cowichan River is one of the finest trout streams on Vancouver Island and is world renowned among fly fishers who choose their casting spots along the 20-kilometre Cowichan River Footpath. In fact, the fly fishing is so famous here, it has had the title Fly Fishing Capital of Canada since the early 1900’s. On Cowichan Lake, you can fish year-round for rainbow trout, brown trout, kokanee, and dolly varden. Mesachie Lake has a car-top boat launch and plenty of rainbow trout, while Nitinat Lake and Nitinat River are known for lake-resident and sea-run cutthroat. Shawnigan Lake and the Koksilah River are two more recommended fishing spots.
