The captivating beauty of the North Central Island region provides inspiration to a large, thriving community of artists and artisans. The Campbell River and District Public Art Gallery presents an excellent collection of work by local artists. Numerous private studios and galleries welcome visitors; local Visitor Info Centres can provide information. Art calendar highlights include the Denman Island Pottery Tour in May, the Hornby Island Home Garden and Studio Tour in July, and the Comox Valley Art Gallery Studio Tour in September. The biggest art event in the region is the Filberg Festival, a long-weekend event in August that showcases more than 140 artists. The Vancouver Island Music Fest in Courtenay is the largest event of its kind on Vancouver Island and features music to suit all tastes.
Myriad events take place in the region year-round and there is a big festival almost every weekend during the summer.
