Outdoor Activities in North Central: Hiking in the North Central Region of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

North Central hiking

Established trail systems are located everywhere and you have a huge range of choices. Mount Washington and nearby Forbidden Plateau have a number of high-alpine trails. At Mount Washington, you can take a chairlift ride up, then hike back down through the alpine scenery. Strathcona Provincial Park has an extensive network of hiking trails ranging from short, easy strolls to multi-day treks.
The trailhead for the spectacular Nootka Trail is reached by fioatplane, boat, or freighter from Gold River. This rugged 35-kilometre trail boasts abundant wildlife and pristine scenery along beaches and past First Nations heritage sites. The total hiking time is approximately 25 hours; however, because the trail follows the shoreline, the hiking time must be adjusted to allow for tides and at least three days are needed to complete the hike. This hike is suitable only for the experienced; guided hiking tours are available and recommended.
