Port Alberni and The Alberni Valley in the Region of Pacific Rim: Rare charm and wonderful sightseeing attractions make your trip an unforgettable experience.

Pacific Rim Bamfield

Main Street Bamfield is a picturesque inlet with a boardwalk on the west side that joins houses, stores, adventure resorts, and marine suppliers; a water taxi provides transportation across the inlet. Getting to Bamfield is always a scenic experience; you can arrive by boat, by floatplane, or along a gravel logging road from Port Alberni or Lake Cowichan.
A mecca for outdoor adventurers from around the world, Bamfield’s population swells each summer with visitors who come to experience the superb fishing, kayaking, hiking, diving, and whale watching for which the area has become famous. Bamfield is the northern trailhead of the West Coast Trail in Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, making it particularly popular among hikers beginning or ending their hike on this world-famous, multi-day trek. For more information, check our hiking in Pacific Rim section.
If hiking the West Coast Trail requires more energy than you can muster, you can still immerse yourself in Bamfield’s marine and forest wonders with a nature walk in and around the townsite. As well, several acclaimed artists live here and exploring the local galleries and artisan studios is a wonderful way to get an artist’s perspective on all the spectacular beauty that surrounds this Pacific Rim outpost.
You’ll find accommodation for every taste and budget in Bamfield, as well as some incredible adventure packages that include fishing and kayaking.
