The first commercial brewery in Western Canada was opened in Victoria in the 1850’s and was in operation even before the first lighthouse was constructed. Since their brewing fine ales has been a tradition in Victoria. To sample the results of years of experience, visit the pubs and restaurants that have micro-breweries on site, or take tour of Vancouver Island Brewery. Guided tours of several facilities are available. Victoria Estate Winery, Vancouver Island’s newest vineyard, opened in 2003 on the Saanich Peninsula. This gorgeous property surrounded in vineyards features a tasting room, deli, gift shop, and tours.
