The Saanich Peninsula is the produce basket of the South Island region. Farms, markets, and farm stands throughout the Saanich Peninsula offer fresh produce and homemade goodies. Watch for signs along the highway indicating nearby farms. As well, during the summer and fall, as many as twenty farms participate in farm tour events and offer tours on a regular basis.
Several weekly markets featuring local produce operate in Victoria from spring through fall. As well, at the Saanich Fairgrounds, you can shop every Saturday morning from May through September. The Saanich Fall Fair takes place there every
Labor Day Long Weekend; this rural fair has been an annual highlight for more than 130 years and features produce and livestock competitions, equestrian events, and carnival rides. Metchosin and Sooke also have wonderful old-fashioned fall fairs. |
