A rare store devoted entirely to matters aeronautic is Ryan’s Avia¬tion World (614 West Pender Street, Downtown, 604-685-4823). Affable Ryan Murphy started going to work at age five when his father founded the business in the seventies, and he is still here. Sub¬titled the Pilot Centre, the store sells pilot training supplies and airport equipment that allows you to “design your own little airport in your basement” (how the plane lands and takes off you’ll have to figure out for yourself). He also sells die-cast aircraft models, flags, historical prints (some signed), and posters — “anything related to flight worldwide,” he says.
