“What wacky color” chortled a friend as we walked into the decidedly upscale and idiosyncratic “decorative homewear” shop Peridot, just off South Granville Street (1512 West i4th Avenue, Central Vancouver, 604-736-4499). A mezzanine displays luxury tidbits for a tiny, would-be princess or prodigy ballerina — from delicate fairy outfits to a mauve satin-brocade blanket. The equivalent for adult girls is found in the airy downstairs gallery. Owner Tamara Wouters buys much of her stock in Paris. Intoxicating.
Also on the outer reaches of femininity is the Barefoot Contessa (3715 Main Street, East Vancouver, 604-879-1137), filled with similarly delightful but less expensive frippery.
