Photography Service in Vancouver

Presentation House (333 Chesterfield Avenue, North Vancouver, 604-986-1351) has quietly pioneered photography exhibition in this city, covering, over the years, everything from early Americana to the touring European avant-garde. I still have a black-and-white postcard reproduction, purchased a decade ago, ofwhat looks like a Renaissance scholar’s study shot by, I believe, a Czech photographer.
A member-run space that somehow survives on the goodwill of its volunteers is the Exposure Gallery ofPhotographic Art (851 Beatty Street, Downtown, 604-688-6853). Exhibits featuring the work of local photographers cover the gamut, from cutting-edge commercial to outstanding travel images.
Several colleges, public and private, offer part-time photography courses and programs. The oldest is Langara College’s Continuing Studies program (100 West 49th Avenue, South Vancouver, 604-323-5322). Another is Focal Point Photography School (4474 West 10th Avenue, Westside, 604-224-3636).
Really a wholesale outlet, but well trodden by serious amateurs as well as professionals for its bulk photo supplies and quality used lenses and cameras, is Beau Photo Supplies (1520 West 6th Avenue, Central Vancouver, 604-734-7771).
